16th May 2009 from Mitchell SD to Rochester MN

Today was one of the travelling days where we just grit down and drove from Mitchell to Minnesota. The weather was ok, but the wind again reared its head, making concentration on the road first priority. Before we left however we still had to make a turn at the worlds only corn palace. This palace is adorned with Corn cobs and grasses from the area each year in a different motif. Afterwards we also went to the Discovery museum, where the kids learnt more about South Dakota, the Indian culture and art. One of the main reasons for Rochester was that it fit the requirement of an average of 350 – 400 miles per day and it had a Buffet for dinner. When we checked into the Motel though we were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness etc. By luck we also received the local Newspaper that advertised two Sports shops with specials on Fishing goods, that made it important to stop by in the morning before travelling onwards. And lo and behold I found my special lures on special and Michi bought himself a new Berkley Rod.

From here we went to the discovery museum

P5160022 Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures inside the museum, but they had this big area where the kids could explore and make things. All materials were supplied and none of the stuff dissapears, everyone uses and cleans up. Unfortunatel this is not possible in RSA.

Then it was on the road again.

An old fort along the road. Bio diesel and Ethanol 85 is getting big here with the hybrid vehicles.
