07 June 2009 Hiawassee River TN

After the fishing excursions we make our way back to Tennessee to wait for Mark and Rhietta to arrive fro SA so we can meet up. We also decide to go back to Pigeon Forge as there are plenty of hotels there and activities at night. We however decide to go camping before we arrive in Pigeon Forge as the weather is nice and we still had some meat we bought that we wanted to “braai”. I saw the sign for the State Park and it mentioned camping, fishing and hiking,  so it was the ideal place to relax. When we arrived there we found a nice river that the locals use to run the rapids when the water is released from the dam. This happens twice a day. When the river is not flowing it is beautiful to fish and we saw some huge fish that just did not want to bite. The kids caught a lot of new species again.

P6070001 P6070002 Our campsite in the Park The Park was quite busy with half the campsites still occupied on Sunday afternoon Behind our campsite there was a nice little trail leading to the river. Kids already fishing Insects were abundant in the forrest The launch where the locals take out their kayaks after coming down the river. Sada's curly tail doing the trick again. I don't thing there is a species of fish that can leave it alone if you know how to fish it. P6070017 P6070025 P6070027 The evening was spent playing in the well equipped playground Operating a puppet P6070043 Spring toys Slides Amerikaans wip plank As it was getting dark we headed back to our campsite. Interesting, you forget your fishing stuff, they provide some for free with tackle, provided you have a valid fishing liscence. On the way back we all of a sudden saw a lot of flashing lights. Fire flies and the hunt was on for the kids All the fire flies before release again After a good nights rest we explored the river some more A serene view of the river I thought I saw a mermaid My new lure retriever Michelle made her own fishing pole and even caught a fish on it. Svens fish This is a can less camping ground. i.e. no garbage bins. This park was spotless when we left, the people just clean up after themselves there are no cleaners.
