04 June 2009 FLW Day one Lake Wheeler AL

Weather prediction for today is Rain and Thundershowers, so it is with anticipation that I wait to go out and fish today. I checked out the FLW website to see who my Pro was and it turned out that he is the partner on other tournaments with Kent Maas who was my Pro in the Santee Cooper event, and he was just as pleasant to fish with as Kent. This was new fishing to me as we fished the shell beds, on my first cast with a crank I was into a white Bass. On the third cast Eddie an I were hooked as a double into white Bass. These were not the fish were after so we carried on Cranking.  Eddie got two keepers, but then the bite got slow, so I threw a shaky head and hooked into a keeper. Subsequently we changed to swimming Jigs. I hooked into a big fish 5lb plus, but it threw the hook. I had to put this fish out of my mind, but it could have gotten me into the top ten if it was landed. We then moved on to look for better fish and luckily rode away from the rain. I finally got my 5 fish, culling one out.

Ended up 62 but there is only ounces in it. I’ll just have to get 5 good fish tomorrow.

Waiting in anticipation Eddie arrives on time.

Launching in the superb Ingalls Harbour This was a monster of a truck! P6040029 Boats lying in wait for the start Quite chuffed with my first limit. Eddie and myself waiting for our bag number to be called Both Eddie and myself had a dead fish when we loaded the bags, but both miraculously revived at the scales????? Counter signing the weigh sheet Eddie Melton on stage. Yours truly getting his weight of 7.03lb Walking back to the boat to get it out of the water All loaded and day one complete

Somebody cast his rod into the water! People are so friendly here and these guys tried to help Sven catch his rod out of the water I finally hooked it with a deep diving treble. Thanking the guys for trying to help.
