06 June 2009 Night fishing on Lake Lewis Smith AL

After a disappointing second day in the FLW , I was fortunate enough to have been invited to fish in a friendly night fishing tournament on Lake Lewis Smith about 40 miles from where we were staying. This tournament is held every Saturday night and starts at 18h30 and finishes with the weigh in at 01h00. Payouts are depending on the amount of boats for heaviest bag and biggest fish. Lake Lewis Smith is a large deep clear water lake with about 500 miles of shoreline and is dotted with boat houses. Truly a magnificent lake renowned for its spotted Bass. The world record Spotted Bass came out of this lake. Again I want to come back to my new friend John that invited me on this tournament, he had everything in place and even had all the lures and rods available for me to fish this type of tournament. The techniques used were shaky heads, Spinner-baits and Jigs fished deep and slow. They also use a black light on the side of the boat to make their fluorescent line highly visible. Unfortunately the Bass were not fully active after the previous nights front and we only got four fish, but in all honesty if we would have stuck all the fish that came off we would have limited both. The winning bag was over 11 pounds and the biggest fish was 3.5 pound. Thanks John for a fantastic evening and experience.
