31 March & 1 April 2009 Our way to the West Coast

We decide to leave for California and our first stop is Los Angeles. This is a bustling city and we arrive at 16h00 hours weary and hungry. A bit disappointed with this area, the Hotel did not honour the voucher and was a bit shitty to say the least. But we need a place to sleep and do our laundry. At least we are staying 2 blocks away from Disneyland California and are treated to the spectacular fireworks that evening for free.

There is also no free wireless internet. We go out to get food, but the Wal-Marts do not even have groceries in their stores, all the places also seem to close at 20h30 as well. So we make up our minds to drive further south to San Diego the following day.

On our way to San Diego we stop at Oceania where the longest wooden Pier into the ocean is built, the beaches are expansive and beautiful, although there is still the feeling of winter in the breeze.

Our next stop is Children's beach at La Jolla (pronounced La Hoya) where the Leopard seals breed.

These two young pelicans waited for attention Although you are not allowed to feed the Pelicans, everyone respects them and they are quite easily approached. In SA they would have been bushmeat already.

This pelican just sat in the middel of the pier. There are even clean facilities on the pier.

No fishing license is required on the pier and you can rent fishing rods and get bait in the shop on the pier. Locals that have adapted the way to move their gear on the pier. The pier is so sturdy it carries vehicles no problem (although it is made completely of wood) They are very arty, this bicycle holder on the waterfront.
