Midweek break to Wekiwa Springs

Today we decided to go to Wekiwa springs just a couple of miles away from us. This is one of a few clear cold water springs that are found in the Florida area. It was decided to go here as the rush is too big during the weekends as thousands of people flock here. What we were not aware of is that this is a Spring that is constantly at 22 Deg C, unlike our Warmbaths etc. One thing is for sure though and that the water is cold and crystal clear. We took along our snorkeling gear and did some underwater exploration. Sven was the first one to point out a nice Bass and the we even saw some Sunfish and a lot of guppies. It is also an amazing site diving down to where the water bubbles out of the earth and it is quite difficult to swim against that current. Now I know where Glen Lau made his beautiful movies ("Largemouth" and "Largemouth forever"). Definitely in one of Florida's Spring waters. But watch this space !

After spending some time swimming we explored the area and went to fish Sand Lake, also at Wekiwa, although big fish were not there, I at least caught two small Bass. Then the usual afternoon showers cooled us off again and it was time to return home.

Weekend at Canaveral seashore

This Sunday we decided to go to the beach, swim etc again. This time it was the east coast again. Fishing was slow, but we had a bucket list moment after interacting with a Manatee that approached us whilst we were wading in the shallows. It is amazing how such a large animal is so calm and cute and came for some attention. We also did a more scenic trip this time by exploring the historical sites.

We braaied some wors, but a family of Racoons came an harassed us, although it turned out to be more begging. We eventually just gave them some dead fish to catch in the water.

Also we went swimming in the ocean and caught a lot sea-lice by hand. Next time we know where to get some good bait, as it seems the Americans do not use them.

Also we must have seen three different snakes on our walk and also some beautiful butterflies.

Here are some pictures:
