4th of July 2009 “Independence day”

Today spirits are high in America and you can feel the patriotism in the air, although there are a lot of budget cuts and the fireworks did not sell as well this year according to the news, people will always celebrate this day. We celebrated by having a braai and then we found the highlight in Kissimmee, a Fireworks show and independence day celebration at Lakefront Park.

Here 35000 people flock to the festival to watch the half hour of spectacular fireworks. At the festival there were exhibits fro the Marines, National guard and many more as well as live bands performing. My personal favourite was when they played “Sweet Home Alabama”. Made even me feel patriotic as an outsider.

On our way to the waterfront An Amarican icecream karrietjie It was Michi's dream to see a live alligator in a lake that he will fish and there surely was one.Towards the right in the middle you can see the head and tail. The fire brigade and Police was out in full force

Thousands of people waiting for the fireworks display, already getting good seats. A patriotic lady, unfortunately the pic is somewhat blurred as I had to steal the action. Ice skating in the Florida summer heat. They skate on Polyprop boards.

02 & 03 July 2009 Kissimmee FL

We are now staying in the Home Suite Home  Suites at a bargain rate of $129 per week and with the savings we will buy some thrill tickets for 6 Disney resorts that is valid for 14 days. With Michi the adrenalin junky we will have to tackle all the wildest rides. And in the deal as well is all the water parks for Michelle and Sven, but the future pictures will tell the story. Only drawback here is no Internet in the room, only in the lobby. This is situated just outside Orlando at the Gates to Disney world.

The suites have a nice pond with fish in the front, but "No Fishing" unfortunately View from our room, luckily on the ground floor infront of the barbque area and the pool.

01 July 2009 From Hilton Head Island to Orlando FL

Today we tackle the last part of our trip to make our journey full circle. This is where we started of in March this year and 20000 miles later we are back. We decided to spend the last month here to find a business and to finalise everything. We also decided to stay ultra low budget and use the savings to buy a 14 day thrill ticket for 6 of the adventure and water parks in Orlando. The last part of the trip took us down the East coast of Florida, past Amelia Island and Daytona Beach.

From here we will also explore the Keys and Fort Lauderdale etc.

Passing through Jacksonville FL P7010049 Speedlimit is 55mph, but I was told you should stick to the flow of traffic, otherwise you get pulled over for being a danger in traffic. And I still was one of the slower vehicles. Over here there are no speed traps, the Highway patrol target specific vehicles with the radar gun, then give chase. Luckily the traffic was heading out of Orlando. Orlando P7010059 Our Hotel until we find low budget accomodation The normal routine. Sven on Laptop, I get everything ready for internet, Michelle on the remote and Michi supervising Amelia planning our activities for the next few days. The playground at the Hotel The swimming pool at the Hotel For our daily activity we went to the Festival Bay Mall, where the Bass Pro Shops is located. At the Bass Pro they have a Summer camp program, where the kids are involved in seminars about hunting, shooting, wildlife, fishing, archery and insects. They have complete an activity book about the seminar and earn pins for the activities. Engulfed in the shooting seminar.Michelle not so interested, she was waiting for the Smore's cooking part. This was very popular, as there were 8 seminars daily for the whole time of the summer holidays, and still the event was packed. The fishing seminar Getting the written exam for the pins. What was that the guy said again???? Michelles favourite part, cooking up Smore's on a campfire and then eating it. A truck intimidating our Chevy again.

30 June 2009 Hilton Head Island SC

Hilton Head looked great on Google Earth and the pictures in the advert also portrayed a place with white beaches. Although when we entered on the only road in over the bridge we immediately saw that this was a playground of the more rich folks. Mercedes, Porsches and other luxury vehicles were all around. Luckily we booked on the phone, so we got a good deal, but not as it looked in the pictures. (i.e no beach) We were on one of the five golf courses on the Island, a mere mile from the beaches. We arrived late, so we only went to see what the beaches looked like before leaving on the next 8 hour stint to our final destination for a while, Orlando Florida.

At the Golf Resort. Our Hotel for the night. A nice Island athmosphere here Pa en laaitie op die Stoep, laatie gee 'n harde poep! Check out this nice bike to take your kid along and to teach them how to ride. Old mans beard becoming prominent again. Cleaning up the beaches, also part of the life guards duties. A small crab found on the beach. The sand was white and bright, beautiful beaches on the Island. Look at these fancy beach houses. proves my point about the wealthy living here. The tide was out this morning. On the road to Orlando again
