Today we decided to give Disney a skip as the temperatures had dropped into the low teens with cold front moving in. We therefore left for Orlando to visit our holy grail, "Bass Pro Shops".

01 March 2009 USA journey starts
Finally arrived in Miami USA and after some hectic interrogations at Customs (due to too much US Dollars in cash on me) we made our way to sleep in Miami before we hire a car to leave for Orlando and Disneyland. Our first mission was to find a Walmart to see if we could get a GPS, but not the right model was available. But we spoilt the kids to some Root Beer and Pringles etc. Then we went to sleep about 23h30 US time to get the kids into US routine.
I booked a car online (rates about 50% cheaper) and we were taken to the Rental area by the Hotels shuttle. Now the trick was to fit 14 bags, and a fishing rod pipe into a 7 seater Minivan. To our surprise the Dodge Caravan stood up to the test and everything was in. Next task was to find our way to the turnpike to Orlando and start the 350 mile journey. But without a GPS it was not so simple, but we eventually managed. We finally arrived at the Holiday In resort at 16h00 and what a place. Will post pictures tomorrow. The weather has changed for worse and it is quite windy and cold 57 Deg F.
Now we will relax and prepare for the adventures of Disney world.
21 February 2009 a quiet day on the beach
Today we decided to relax and not drive too far, we only drove to the beachfront and tried fishing Spanish style in the surf. Only problem is fish were not biting on our squid baits that we offered, maybe we should have purchased some worms from the vending machines selling live bait.
There were some locals that caught some small fish with floats of the rocks, looked like mackerels. They were obviously destined for the table.
The weather is fine in the mornings with temperatures around 18 Deg C, but at around 12h00 it becomes cooler to around 15 Deg C.
By staying on the cliffs we are also spoilt by the numerous Para-gliders that seem to use the updraft created by the cliffs. This looks fantastic and if the opportunity presents itself I will try this sport in the States.
19 February 2009 The first Snow experience
We made an effort to drive through to Granada today, where Spain's popular Sierra Nevada Ski Resort is. This was a new experience for us all as 4/5 of our family had never experienced snow before. Well even I had forgotten what it feels like. What an experience, but too expensive to learn how to ski, especially with the language barrier. We enjoyed a wonderful day in the snow.
15 Feb 2009 we are finally on our way!
After long preparations and frustrations with our clever SA ( and American Veterinary services ) we are finally ready to leave SA for good (6 months)
10 Bags and 5 Hand luggage bags later we had Erich and Adri and Gawie and Conrad in two vehicle take us to the Airport.
Thanks to everybody that still joined us for a short time on the 15th as a small farewell, it was highly appreciated.
The Getaway
17 February 2009 Our first day of exploration
After sleeping till about 10 o'clock in the morning to recover from the poor sleep on the flight we decided to head to the beach and go for a long walk ( we must have walked about 10km today)
16 February 2009 Arrival at Bajarras Airport Madrid
Madrid Airport
Our Journey of about 550km to Almunecar started with much confusion, as I had never driven left hand drive and on the right of the roads yet, so to start of driving into a one-way was a good start, allowing me to learn to reverse a Vito on the wrong side of the road. The we missed the first turn-off at a circle, but luckily made it on the second go. The rest was a piece of cake.
