This week we finally got Certified.

After a while of studying Amelia and myself attended the official Food managers course that is required to have when operating  Restaurant. We should also be qualified now to train our staff in the Foodhandler / server category.

I must say the lecturer was great fun and it did not turn out as boring as these things usual are and it waa great to see Amelia in a studying environment for the firs time in about 20 years.

Hopefully we both passed and will get our certificate next week.

Tomorrow we might go out to lake Louisa and do some fishing and Kayaking with the family to distress a bit  again, will post photos then.

Busy Friday schedule for us

This morning we had our Chamber Breakfast with the South Lake chamber of commerce in Lake County. There were about 147 people there from all different businesses that come to listen to some great speakers about events in the community and to help small business owners develop. This is also where we were introduced to all of them and poor old "your's truly " had to get up and go and speech infront of them. The movie star Amelia left me hanging and refused to join me on stage. Although she had her 5 seconds of fame on the big screen at the event.

We met a few new business owners that will start to use the restaurant and any free publicity is welcome. We even met another American Lady that is married to a South African soccer star that played for Wits and Tukkies. I am sure we are going to become good friends and share some good times around a braai fire in future.

After that we started off slow for the lunch break, but now we are getting quite busy.

Some of our friendly Staff here getting on with the job at hand.

This week was travelling

We had a pretty good start to the week, except for the fact that we got the bad tiding about our AC in the restaurant. Fix leaks, fix ducting in roof, replace 15kg of Freon etc. Well today $1500 later we can feel the cool air again. Just to let you know we are only at the start of spring, but the daily temperatures are already at about 36 Deg Celsius with a high humidity.

We also took a drive to Fort Lauderdale yesterday to be at the GFS Food show. This was a place where you get to taste and sample all tyopes of food from the suppliers and get ideas for the menu etc. We all rolled out of there after tasing so many good things.

After  the show we had to pass by the IGFA and Bass Pro Shops in Ford Lauderdale, where the Flags were flying half mast in the wake of the Boston Bombings.

Attached some photos from the Show and at Bass Pro.

Update on past few days.

Sunday was a relaxing day with all of us sleeping in a bit, then we left for the creek to fish. We caught a lot of Bass, as well as two bowfin.

We also prepared our own Boerewors today and in all honesty it was not too bad, needs little more salt and Coriander, then we are spot on. I can tell it was good because some people popped out of their cottages too look where the good smell was coming from.

Monday was a disaster, after hearing the news that they had broken into my mother in-law' s house again whilst she was there, we also returned to a defrosted kitchen. Both our prep tables had shut dwn over the weekend. This after spending $1200 on repairs. Now I have taken it upon myselto fix these units. I have already sorted out the make-up air unit thatis now delivering enough air to the extractor again and both the Prep tables are now holding temperature, by just installing a $5 timer to give the unit time to de-ice.

On a good note we had the South-Lake chamber of commerce at our restaurant on Wednesday to take some video and photos for a marketing video around the area. Amelia is now a movie star as well.

Now we are looking towards a busy weekend.

Some good fishing this morning

Michi and myself took the Kayak this morning and paddled about 3 miles and caught lots of Bass, of which the biggest was a 2kg fish caught by Michi. only pattern that worked was weightless Flukes.

We must have caught about 15 fish and missed the same amount. They were on, but we are still learning the hookset on the Kayak.

Anyway here are the pics of our new accommodations.
